Windows Desktop Licensing
Some things are far too important to be left to chance. However, many of your customers may be settling for "possibly" when it comes to their software licensing. Are your customers at risk for being mislicensed? Use these marketing materials to help ensure your customers are using only genuine licensed software.

Each PC running Windows desktop software needs to have its own full Windows desktop license.   There are only two ways to acquire the initial full Windows license on a new PC:

1. Preinstalled on a PC via a PC manufacturer—the most cost-effective way to acquire a Windows license. 2. Through retail stores as full packaged product.

Microsoft Volume Licensing agreements cover the Windows desktop UPGRADE ONLY.

You should know...
  • To help identify customers who might be at risk, ask your customers; Have you ever acquired PC's with a preinstalled OS, and then used their VL agreement to install a Window license on those PCs?
Tell Your Customers...
  • The first, and most economical way to avoid mis-licensing is preinstalled through their PC manufacturer.
  • Another option is to purchase full packaged retail product. Microsoft Volume Licensing programs such as Open License, Select License, and Enterprise Agreements cover Windows upgrades only and do not provide a full Windows desktop license.
